The person behind it

Hi, I'm Amy.

I've spent my career writing about food and the places it comes from. I'm the senior food editor at Yankee magazine, a co-host of public television's Weekends with Yankee, and the author of The Apple Lover's Cookbook, which won an IACP Cookbook Award.

Kitchen Letters started because I missed making things with my hands, and because I missed getting mail that wasn't a bill. Every month I test and illustrate a seasonal recipe, paint a watercolor, pull together a playlist, and write a real letter about what I'm cooking, reading and thinking about. Then I print it, stuff it, address it, and stamp it myself.

It's a small, analog antidote to a very fast internet. No algorithm decides what you get. Nothing disappears down a feed. It just shows up in your mailbox, once a month, and it's yours to keep.
